Foam Board Music Stand Extension
Most fold up music stands can be difficult when you have a large music book or multiple loose pages. Here is a quick and easy solution to make a music stand extension using foam board. You can use corrugated cardboard from a box, but foam board is better. Final dimensions are 14 ½ inches by 20 inches, and you can certainly modify them to meet your own particular music stand height and size requirements.
Items Needed:
Wear your safety goggles. Remember, safety first!
Measure and cut out a 20” x 16” rectangle. Set aside the scraps to be used later for a table top music stand addition.

Measure across 10” and cut down the entire height of the foam board. This will be on the back side, and all other cuts will also be on this side. Do not cut the foam board all the way through, because this will be where it folds.
Measure 1.5” up from the bottom and cut across the length of the foam board. Once again do not cut through the foam board. This will be the bottom lip the music rests on.
Turn the foam board over. On the front side Scotch tape the length of the the cuts that did not go all the way through. This will help strengthen the foam board and prevent it from falling apart.
Secure the foam board to a music stand
at each end of the lip with black plastic clamps (also found at a
dollar store) or black painted wood clothes pins.
For storage fold the foam board together (on the front side) on the vertical fold line.
Other suggestions:
Use black foam board instead, as it will blend in when on a black professional music stand.
Paint the white foam board on the back side (not the front) with black spray paint.
